A relationship that NEEDS cultivation & improvement!

It is truly delightful to see children grow up alongside dogs.
Most of the time, we observe dogs adjusting their behavior in order to adapt their play and their movements to the size and temperament of the children. Sometimes, they even tolerate clumsy and awkward handling from the kids.
This kindness is one of the reasons dogs have become the most popular pets. And the bond between children and dogs flourishes, creating something beautiful for everyone.

However, some dogs find it difficult to live harmoniously with children — and without the proper and timely help, treatment, and intervention from trainers, things can escalate and lead to painful consequences. Unfortunately, due to mistakes in training and the inability of dog guardians to manage certain situations, children fall into a high-risk category for potential injuries from dog bites. Most accidents actually occur with the family’s own dog.

These incidents certainly don’t help the development of a culture of animal welfare. Safety must always be a priority — but as always, true safety requires PREVENTION and TIMELY education for everyone involved (parents, children, and dogs).

The experience of sharing the same home should not be traumatic for the child — nor for the dog. Shaping proper behavior benefits every member of the family. With the right help, supervision, and guidance, adults can support both the child and the dog in coexisting peacefully and building a safe, unforgettable friendship.

Parents, do not neglect or postpone the education of yourselves, your child, and your dog. When individuals are called to live together, there must be understanding, knowledge, the ability to communicate properly, patience, and tolerance.

Written by Yiannis Arachovitis,
Professional Positive Trainer of Dogs & Humans –
Greece Representative for PDTE (Pet Dog Trainers of Europe)

In the early 1990s, Yiannis Arachovitis had the opportunity to study under two “giants” in the field of animal training — Mr. Bob Bailey (USA) and, shortly afterward, Ms. Turid Rugaas (Norway). The influence of these two enlightened teachers profoundly changed his training philosophy, leading him to join the ranks of positive trainers once and for all. Having left behind the traditional training methods — based on coercion, psychological pressure, and physical force (such as choke chains, etc.) — and finding fertile ground for personal development, Mr. Arachovitis decided to promote humane and positive forms of animal training in Greece. Thus, he founded STAR DOGS, which soon became synonymous with gentle, positive, and enjoyable methods of communication between animals and their owners.
